Alternative Dimensions  2008

Alternative Dimensions, is a showcase event exploring the diversity of the creative musical movement of Trinidad and Tobago.  It is a concert that offers patrons an alternative musical experience during the carnival season. In 2003, Sheldon Blackman spear headed a group of artists in creating the project “Alternative Dimensions” as they shared the need to create exposure and a space for their music during the carnival season. The groups involved represent alternative Calypso and Soca based, jazz, pop, rock, reggae, Rapso and Jamoo etc. The event is an attempt to highlight and bring these creative expressions to the forefront during the Carnival season, which is a time when this genre of music is not always represented, nor is a part of the mainstream. The artistes involved believe that it should be, and so the platform Alternative Dimensions was created.

Alternative Dimensions is now entering its fifth successful year.  It began in 2003 at the Tamnak Thai Restaurant and Siam Rooftop Terrace with five nights of great music. In 2004 it then was relocated to The Pelican Inn for four nights. At this time a group of young international artists from Norway was introduced through the “Crossing Over ” exchange program hosted by The Roaring Lion Foundation.  In 2005 the project held its first open air concert at the Princes Building Grounds, Port of Spain. For the first time Tobago experienced this musical explosion at the Indigo Restaurant and Bar.  In 2005 for the first time local visual artistes were also allowed a creative platform for expression.  In 2006 the National Museum of T&T hosted this much awaited event. In addition to the musical aspect Marielle Studios presented an art exhibition.

For 2008 we are putting on the ultimate Green Event on Sheldon Blackman's vegetable farm in Piparo.
